Five Generations of Family, Community & Lakeside Memories

Point of Mara RV Resort is a family-owned destination with a proud legacy spanning over 50 years. Nestled along the shores of Lake Simcoe in Brechin, Ontario, the resort has been built on generations of hard work, dedication, and a deep sense of community.

The story began on September 4, 1974, when Werner and Alma Kaiser purchased the property, which at the time included a house, motel units, and cottages. They relocated their family to Brechin to pursue a new vision—building a welcoming resort for families to gather and create lasting memories. By 1975, Point of Mara officially opened. The trailer park on the west side of the road was constructed by Werner, while the lakeside property began as open field camping. Werner also expanded what was once a small pond into the marina that continues to serve guests today. His hands-on approach and craftsmanship helped shape much of the property’s foundation. Alma was equally instrumental in establishing the character of the resort. Known for her strength, high standards, and no-nonsense approach, she ensured the park maintained a respectful and welcoming atmosphere for all.

In the 80's, operations were taken over by their daughter Christine and her husband Doug Reid. Together, they continued to grow the resort while preserving its family-oriented values. Over the years, they expanded and improved the property. Doug Reid was known for his warmth, kindness, and love of the water—often ending his days with a swim after long hours of work. His presence remains a meaningful part of the resort’s history and spirit.

Today, Christine continues to lead Point of Mara with her unwavering commitment to excellence. For the Reid family, Point of Mara is more than a business—it is a legacy. Generations have grown up on these grounds, learning the value of connection and community.

At its heart, Point of Mara is defined by its people. The resort’s long-standing community of guests and families has played an essential role in its story. Their loyalty, support, and friendships are what make Point of Mara truly special.
